How will information be protected?
Your privacy is important to us. Your information will remain confidential. The City takes steps to protect personal information and handle such records in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
The survey will be anonymized and will be kept separate from the applicant’s or employee files. The survey responses will be disaggregated so that the individuals who completed the survey cannot be identified and to maintain anonymity.
Applicant responses will be stored on the City of Brampton’s applicant tracking system. Only authorized staff within Human Resources and the Equity Office will have access to individual responses.
If I don’t complete the Self-Identification Survey, can I still apply for a position?
Yes, you can still apply for a position. Completing the self-identification survey is voluntary. Your application will be accepted regardless of whether or not you complete the survey.
Why did the City launch the Self-Identification Survey?
The survey is part of the work plan commitment made in the Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Strategy to monitor the demographic representation of underrepresented groups and also addresses the Brampton City Council motion passed on June 16, 2021, specifically, Equity Principles in the City's Recruitment, Hiring and Promotion of Staff.
Your voluntary self-identification will help the City to identify and remove barriers that have historically negatively impacted the employment opportunities of underrepresented groups and make the hiring process more equitable and inclusive for all applicants.
We are working on strengthening our hiring strategies and processes, however without data we are limited in our ability to measure the success of these initiatives. The data you provide will help the City understand who is applying, who is progressing through the hiring process and ultimately who is successful in attaining these positions.
