POSITION DUTIES:

Reporting to the Manager, Investment Attraction, The Economic Development Investment Attraction Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to attract domestic and foreign direct investment (FDI), facilitate business expansion, and support economic growth. The role involves building relationships with businesses, site selectors, industry stakeholders and government agencies to promote Brampton’s competitive advantages, generate quality leads and secure new investment.  

The primary focus of the role is to generate high quality investment leads and close deals. This will be accomplished by providing  prospective investors with a consultative service, including following through on client requests, facilitating key introductions, anticipating and responding to client needs, and providing end-to-end advice and guidance throughout the investment lifecycle.

 

  1. INVESTMENT ATTRACTION  
  • Develop and execute targeted plans and tactics to proactively generate leads
  • Responsible for building and nurturing positive and productive client relationships in order to accelerate and maximize investment opportunities for the City of Brampton;
  • Generate, implement and evaluate strategies to attract Investment in Brampton;
  • Plans, coordinates and develops detailed research, analysis and planning to attract Investment and trade.
  • Build and sustain credible, long-term relationships with clients, industry associations, cluster and sector groups, public/private sector organizations, service providers and other stakeholders including, but not limited to, the ICI (Industrial, Commercial and Institutional) Community, Site Selectors, Trade Commissioner Services and Business Councils to enhance lead generation and client servicing;
  • Ensure information regarding market strategies and planned missions are current and shared with the Manager, Investment Attraction and the Economic Development teams;
  • Regularly review processes and approaches to improve lead generation and the client services experience; take responsibility for ensuring that improvements are actioned and increase the awareness of Brampton’s value proposition with investors;
  • Regularly participate in events and activities that will help raise Brampton’s profile globally as a major centre of innovation and growth for international business investors;
  • Constantly updateknowledge of the Brampton’s assets and continuously build understanding of the city’s value propositions for businesses looking to locate in Brampton.

 

  1. OPERATIONAL SUPPORT
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis and provide meaningful insights, perspectives and solutions that meet the needs of clients and prospective investors
  • Provide support to business mission planning and client files as required, including preparing background documents, scheduling meetings, producing briefing notes, coordinating tours, etc.
  • Conducts financial analysis to determine value proposition for prospective investors
  • Conducts investment meetings with clients locally and globally to  present Brampton’s value proposition and influence the investor’s final location decision;
  • Prepares proposals and other documents as part of the deal-closing process;
  • Provide organized and proactive coordination of administrative initiatives including correspondence, documentation and answering enquiries to meet operational needs and corporate service standards.

  1. CUSTOMER SERVICE 
  • Respond and handle business enquiries; prioritize requests and escalate for resolution as required to meet corporate service standards;
  • Build and maintain a relationship with cross-functional departments, team, management and externally, to foster and support coordination while carrying out accountabilities;
  • Demonstrate corporate values at all times.

 

  1. COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING 
  • Develops and collects program key performance indicators; monitors and reports on KPIs; makes recommendations based on analysis of KPIs and other trends.
  • Track all leads in CRM, update and manage sales pipeline to provide monthly updates to Senior Management
  • Ability to format and create visually compelling and professional documents, in alignment with established visual identity guidelines;
  • Prepare reports, presentations, data and other relevant materials as required accurately by established timelines;
  • Ability to speak and present customized presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including Senior level officials, CEOs and private investors for the purpose of attaining investments and generating opportunities for further negotiation  
  • Investigate customer service issues and resolve general matters to ensure proper resolve;
  • Maintain documentation and correspondence and ensure necessary sign-offs and approvals meet policies and confidentiality.

 

  1. CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to support corporate initiatives in foreign investment and trade, 
  • Assess the sensitivity of communications and escalate to the Manager, Investment Attraction as required;
  • Main point of contact for attraction and investment related leads and projects, from prospecting to project completion, including but not limited to, preparing of proposals as assigned by the Manager, Investment attraction;
  • Responsible for the administration of confidential files and sensitive information and records.

 

  1. BUDGET SUPPORT 
  • Prepare, manage and take responsibility for assigned budget to meet corporate policies and guidelines;
  • Provides monthly budget status updates to the Manager, Investment Attraction as required.

 

  1. TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION
  • Partner with the Marketing & Communications team on a regular basis to ensure synergies and clarity of various needs;
  • Work with the Investment Services Team to provide services to the ICI and development communities and potential investors by providing site selections, market intelligence and regional market statistics;
  • Ability to foster engagement, encourage debate and build consensus in the undertaking of all divisional engagements;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to achieve divisional goals and objectives while respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives;
  • Represent the division on various cross-sectional teams.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education:

  • Post-Secondary education in business, economics, commerce or related field.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ progressive experience in economic development, investment attraction or related industry and similar role is required.

Special Requirements:

  • Highly developed business acumen, with an ability to remain agile and confident when presenting and negotiating
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge to provide expert advice on Economic Development and Investment attraction activities;
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organization skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal Governments and applicable Legislations;
  • Ability to identify business needs, initiate, coordinate project resource requests;
  • Customer Service and People Management skills; Interface with internal and external customers to meet corporate service standards.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and able to coordinate and multi-task to accomplish a variety of tasks and activities meeting conflicting priorities and timelines;
  • Analytical skills for complex problem solving and financial analysis
  • Ability and willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally
  • Flexible work hours are required, including evenings and weekends
  • Exceptional English skills, written and verbal. Additional languages would be an asset
