POSITION DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager, Events & Protocol, as part of a team, this position will be responsible for providing service excellence to stakeholders and participants in the delivery of various City of Brampton special events and festivals. This role is responsible to ensure a proactive approach to program delivery of new and existing events that meet the needs of the community. Provide guidance and direction to part-time staff and volunteers
- Responsible for the planning & implementation of City of Brampton special events, festivals and corporate programs.
- Attend and ensure the seamless execution of assigned events. Assist in event set-up and takedown, address and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with the Senior Events Specialists in the planning and execution of City events as required.
- Assist and support the Festivals and Special Events team.
- Assist Strategic Communications with the planning, delivery and communication strategies related to special events, festivals and corporate programs.
- Liaise with various community groups, suppliers and businesses to develop and/or enhance community relationships when planning and producing events.
- Ensure programming excellence by researching, designing and developing new events and enhancing existing events.
- Report on attendance numbers, trends, target achievements and areas for growth.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to corporate policies and procedures.
- Responsible to update and maintain the corporate event database.
- Provide timely follow-up to customer service issues.
- Perform additional similar and related duties as assigned.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
- High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over one (1) and up to two (2) years in Tourism and Hospitality Management - Event Planning, Special Events Planning, Public Relations or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of experience in a municipal or community related public relations environment with proven experience in major special event planning and execution in a project team environment.
REQUIRED LICENCE CERTIFICATION:
- A valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; superior customer service/public relations skills coupled with excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with community groups and/or the private sector, other levels of government.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Regular access to a vehicle.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
