Primary Function

The Field Surveillance Member is responsible for supporting the Recreation Division’s oversight of city-wide outdoor sports facilities. This position conducts on-site monitoring of sports fields, collects usage data, engages with field organizers, and compiles information to support analysis, reporting, and season-end evaluations.

  • Generate and maintain reports through PerfectMind/Xplor Rec for all city-wide outdoor sports facilities.
  • Break down reports by Parks Area to support allocation review and operational planning.
  • Update tracking spreadsheets with collected data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Drive to outdoor sports fields across the city to monitor activity, ensuring fields are being used according to permits and guidelines.
  • Observe play and document relevant information as outlined by the Coordinator, Sports Liaison.
  • Engage with field organizers on-site, asking prepared questions provided by the Coordinator.
  • Provide a positive customer service experience while gathering required operational information.
  • Provide administrative and reporting support to the full time supervisory team.
  • Handle feedback in a professional manner while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain an understanding of divisional programs and services.
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants/rental holders and staff.
  • Compile collected data to create an end-of-season presentation for the Recreation Leadership Team (RLT).
  • Develop a clear and concise Executive Summary highlighting key findings, trends, and recommendations for RLT review.
  • Attend meetings/trainings as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s License.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Recreation or related fields.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to acquire City-issued over-road fleet permit.
  • Use of personal vehicle may be required for travel between sites.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with community sport organizers.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with capability to manage time efficiently.
  • Basic proficiency with reporting systems (e.g., PerfectMind/Xplor Rec), spreadsheet tools (Excel/Google Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to consistently produce accurate work through strong attention to detail and effective organizational skills
