Reporting to the Coordinator, Traffic Outside Services, installs and maintains signs, assists Truck Driver and stakes out utility sites.

Positions Duties and Responsibilities:

Directs summer/temporary staff.

  • Installs and maintain all types of traffic, street, special event and emergency signs, includes erecting channel and telespar units, and posts: lags, straps or bolts signs to unit/post.  Digs with auger or shovel; trims obstructive trees.
  • Performs maintenance at municipal parking garages.
  • Assists in placement & programming of automatic traffic recorders.
  • Liaises with public utility representatives to stake out underground cables, pipes, etc.  Signs documents as needed.
  • Assists Sign Maker in manufacture of street signs; prepares wood, metal blanks, cuts letters, assists in silk screening, etc.  Assists in maintaining equipment and shop.
  • Hardware installation and maintenance of newspaper box sites.
  • Assists in pavement marking removals: sweeps surface, assists in pre-marking, and flagging (traffic control).
  • Installation and maintenance of parking meter posts.
  • Unloads and stocks equipment and supplies delivered three to four time annually.
  • Removes advertisements and newspaper boxes improperly placed on City property.
  • Operates oxygen/acetylene cutting torch unit.  Returns for refill when needed.
  • Performs basic carpentry work e.g. temporary stands, etc.
  • Ensures work site safety e.g. placing of traffic cones, flagging, etc.
  • Performs additional similar and related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.

 Experience:

  • Over one (1) year up to and including two (2) years of experience.

Other Skills and Assets:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
