Primary Function:

This position reports to the Recreation Programmer / Recreation Coordinator. You will be responsible to supervise and maintain a safe, enjoyable environment for all users

Position Duties:

  • Supervise participants and maintain complete vigilance to minimize risks, and be ready to respond at all times
  • Maintain a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive program environment for all participants by educating and enforcing program rules
  • Ensure all participants are equipped with proper personal protective equipment (e.g. helmet) when required
  • Supervise program participants and ensure their safety both on and off the ice
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging participants
  • Communicate with participants in regards to lesson opportunities and accident prevention
  • Address and resolve complaints and on-ice issues
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. attendance and incident/accident reports)
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action
  • Maintain facility, grounds, equipment and amenities i.e. pick litter, snow/ice removal, windows and doors, clean washrooms, change rooms, empty garbage
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
  • Attend meetings/training as required
  • Handle program feedback in a professional manner by providing exceptional customer service
  • Monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and re-stock as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services

Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum 15 years of age
  • Demonstrate intermediate level skating skills during an on-ice practical assessment
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR OR Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C and AED from an accredited organization, or the ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire
  • Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.)
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Successful completion of an ice skills assessment (Forward Skating, Backward Skating, Turns and Stops)
