Reporting to the Manager, Service Development this position is responsible for providing leadership in compiling, maintaining, and analyzing system data and recommending Transit service changes to improve customer service and efficiencies. Supports Service Development programs and initiatives including service planning, service design, performance analysis, and other related studies. Supports stakeholder engagement on various internal and external projects and initiatives and carries out other duties as assigned. Supports the short and long-term development of the transit network to ensure that the City’s goals around ridership growth, service quality, public service and safety are met or exceeded.
Key Duites and Responsibilities
- Project Lead: Lead and support data analytics projects and initiatives, including those involving multiple Transit Sections, by formulating work-plans, planning and implementing project management activities, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and managing external suppliers and consultants, including those of various Data Visualization Applications. Prepares contract documents for RFPs and coordinates the awards of the contracts. Administration duties include creating project synopsis, summaries, project charters, project schedules and governance. Manage work plans and timelines for multidisciplinary projects, vendors, suppliers and contractors. Manages the technical, contractual, and professional responses related to data and data visualization suppliers to ensure compliance and clarity.
- Lead and support the maintenance of various transit related systems: including data components of Smartbus and Hastus, as well as the Stop Annunciation system to ensure all bus stops, route itineraries and spatial base maps (i.e. bus stop and landmarks) are accurate and up-to-date and placement of trigger boxes and related announcements are correct and appropriately timed. Lead the maintenance of Data Visualization applications to ensure that accurate ridership and scheduling data and reports are available to Service Development staff.
- Lead the data mining and analytics: functions within Service Development for the development of transit ridership and operational performance metrics, including data modelling, mining, consolidating, researching, investigating, monitoring and tracking of statistical information as it relates to transit ridership and operational performance. Provide regular update reports that support business decision making, including effectively leading and guiding the work of staff through effective coaching and leadership. Understand performance metrics such as those set out in Service Standards. Establish benchmarking and critical analysis to answer business questions and needs by finding hidden patterns. Deliver descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analysis to stakeholders for decision making including providing recommendations based on the data. Recommend and implement ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality.
- Analyze data and provide recommendations to improve efficiencies: Perform detailed reviews of various services; including Scheduling Adherence and Automatic Passenger Count (APC) and provides appropriate recommendations to improve the efficiency of routes, schedules, runs and crews. Reviews data in relation to various policies, procedure and collective agreements; identifies issues and assesses potential changes. Perform detailed cost modelling of services and recommends enhancement or curtailment of services.
- Investigate and respond to internal and external inquiries" related to Smartbus and Hastus data and system functions. Coordinated technical and professional responses as required, ensuring communication meets customer service standards.
- Provide Team Support: Assist Service Development staff with projects and tasks (i.e. crew bid process, passenger surveys, preparation, and delivery of the annual transit service plan). Represent Brampton Transit’s interests as a member of various internal and external committees as required. Maintain close coordination with other teams within Service Development, as well as Transit Accounting, Transit Sustainability & Innovation, and other teams within the City responsible for leading the daily work related to transit ridership, revenue from sale of transit fares and data and analytics reporting.
- Customer Service: Build and maintain a relationship with internal and external stakeholders, departments and team members to achieve project goals and objectives. Work well within the division to achieve common goals and objectives. Ensure a positive working relationship with clients, area municipalities and other Government bodies to coordinate sharing of data and statistics related to fare and service integration initiatives
Selection Criteria
Education
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Geography, Urban Planning with GIS or a related field
Experience
- 3-5 years experience in similar role.
- Extensive experience with GIS concepts and applications (i.e. ARCGIS and MapInfo)
Other Skills and Assest
- Considerable knowledge of computer concepts regarding spreadsheet modelling, data management, visualization and analytical tools, and Business Intelligence tools (i.e. Tableau, Power BI)
- Specific knowledge of the transit industry, and comprehensive knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) applications Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated competency with re-engineering of business processes, benchmarking and performance metrics is an asset.
- Experience managing strategic or operational projects with demonstrated ability to deliver on-time quality results.
- Excellent communication, project management and presentation skills, and proven ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders and ability to build consensus and multi-task
- Ability to ensure accuracy of work and exercise creativity in utilizing abstract concepts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good performance and work record.
Mandatory Requirements
- Valid, non-probationary, Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence
