Reporting to the Senior Market Development Advisor, this position plays a critical role in the newly created Market Expansion & Business Advisory Team. With the launch of Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy, the role will support the Senior Advisor by working with companies to help diversify their markets and support expansion into emerging sectors.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT
- Support the Senior Advisor in the development, coordination, and execution of strategic initiatives related to the growth and advancement of Brampton’s defence and space sector portfolio, including the identification and assessment of emerging opportunities, stakeholder needs, sector strengths, and partnership participation.
- Provide specialized advisory and business support services to companies operating within highly regulated and strategically sensitive industries, including assessing organizational readiness, identifying market-entry barriers, and guiding firms toward appropriate programs, procurement pathways, investment opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
- Coordinate the delivery of innovative sector-focused programming, workshops, missions, and events that strengthen industry competitiveness, foster market expansion, and support the City’s strategic economic development objectives.
- Participate in confidential stakeholder engagement activities, industry missions, business development meetings, and sector events to advance the profile, relationships, and strategic priorities of the Market Expansion & Business Advisory Team.
- Research, identify, and provide strategic recommendations regarding partnership, speaking, and engagement opportunities that enhance sector positioning, support economic growth objectives, and strengthen the Market Expansion & Business Advisory Team narrative.
- Identify and support strategic communications and media opportunities that promote sector initiatives, key business development priorities and the Market Expansion & Business Advisory Team.
- Conduct business retention and expansion visits with new and existing companies to build and maintain strong working relationships, assess operational needs, and facilitate access to appropriate business growth services and supports.
- This position regularly involves engaging with defence-sector firms, government agencies, and strategic industry partners involving commercially sensitive, confidential, and potentially controlled information. The incumbent is required to exercise a high degree of discretion, judgment, and professionalism in the handling of protected information.
- Provide highly organized and proactive coordination of sensitive administrative and operational activities, including correspondence, documentation, stakeholder communications, meeting coordination, and client follow-up, while exercising a high degree of professionalism, discretion, political acuity, and confidentiality.

COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING
- Prepare executive briefs for senior management that include outcomes, strengths and recommendations.
- Coordinate with the Strategic Communications team to prepare speaking notes and develop marketing collateral.
- Actively promote program launches, business profiles and successes.
- Track program outcomes, business engagements, and economic impact metrics.
- Create visually compelling and professional documents aligned with corporate visual identity guidelines.
- Present customized content to businesses, partners, and sector groups to support market development and opportunity awareness.
- Maintain documentation, correspondence, and approvals in accordance with policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Maintain regular communication between applicants and the agency or organization issuing the grant to support the company’s pursuit of funding opportunities aimed at expanding its defence manufacturing capabilities.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Respond and handle public enquiries; prioritize requests and escalate for resolution as required to meet corporate service standards;
- Build and maintain a relationship with cross-functional departments, team, management and externally, to foster and support coordination;
- Represent senior management on behalf of the supervisor, as required, in high-level operational, strategic, and administrative meetings, including matters involving leadership decision-making, policy implementation, and departmental oversight.

TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION
- Collaborate regularly with the Market Expansion and Business Advisory team to coordinate client support, align outreach efforts and ensure seamless delivery of advisory services to local businesses.
- Work closely with the Economic Development Office and other internal departments to ensure alignment and program objectives are met.
- Represent the division on cross‑departmental teams and external working groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Post-Secondary education in economic development, market development, marketing or equivalent.
- Partial or full completion of EcD professional designation an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in economic development, market development, investment attraction, international trade, or a related field.
- Experience with events management, planning and execution
- Experience working with businesses in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, cybersecurity, or innovation‑driven sectors is an asset.
Special Requirements:
- Strong business acumen with the ability to forge relationships and confidently advise companies, supporting market development activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of economic development and all levels of government
- An understanding of federal procurement or funding programs.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to identify business needs, coordinate resources, and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Strong acumen with Customer Relationship Management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Powerpoint, Excel and Word)
- Ability to articulate a vision clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
- The ability to travel frequently to various worksites and off-site client meetings.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Exceptional English skills, written and verbal.
- Additional languages would be an asset
- G Class License and access to a vehicle is an asset.
- Some travel will be required.
