AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, leads a community team responsible for the development and service delivery of a variety of recreation programs, facility maintenance and bookings within the community centre.

Leads a team of professionals responsible for the development and service delivery of a variety of recreation programs, facility maintenance and bookings within the community centre.  Participate in recruitment and selection of staff.  Provide coaching for improved performance management.  Ensure staff compliance with regulatory provisions, i.e. Occupational Health & Safety, and the City’s HR policies and procedures.  Ensure due diligence is carried out in all areas of risk management and safety training in the facility.  Fosters a culture of appreciation and recognition.

  • Budget.  Monitors all aspects of budgets and revenues.  Plans and implements annual business operating plans for the facility/community centre to provide improved service delivery, generate additional revenues and/or reduce costs annually which support the strategic plan.  Establishes and meets revenue and expenditure targets with the ultimate goal of reducing net operating costs of the centre.  Provides input and recommendations regarding capital projects.
  • Customer Service.  Responsible for maintaining a work environment that is citizen-centred and where a customer service orientation is strongly held.  Ensures there is a positive relationship between staff and citizens.  Deals with escalated issues and elevates contentious issues to manager where business direction may be compromised.  Is visible through regular interaction with the public, in order to motivate others to excellence. Ambassador of the community services department in the community promotes all facility activities within the community.
  • Quality Assurance. Ensure maintenance schedules and contracts are in place to keep facilities safe and optimize its usage. Establish systems for preventative maintenance, equipment care, energy management, security and asset management, housekeeping and quality assurance.  Ensures cleanliness for safe program delivery.
  • Community Centre Liaison.  Deals directly with other Corporate Community Partnerships in consultation with the Recreation Manager, Community (E W) and/ stakeholders.  
  • Business Development through the analysis and assessment of indoor and outdoor facility requirements and present recommendations.  In partnership with other Community Services staff, identifies trends in recreation.  

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

EDUCATION:

•    University degree or college diploma in Recreation Studies or related field;

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

•    3 – 5 years experience in related field.
•    2 – 3 years of supervisory experience.

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

•    Excellent public relations skills and ability to effectively deal with the public;  
•    Able to successfully develop, lead and work within a customer-service oriented team environment; 
•    Well developed time management and organization skills; 
•    Working knowledge of relevant legislation; 
•    Marketing skills and business experience in a leadership role;
•    Proficiency in MS Office 

Mandatory Requirements

•    Must have access to own vehicle and driver’s licence
